Spring Cleaning Checklist for MI Homes

Why Spring Cleaning Matters More in Michigan
Southeast Michigan winters bring road salt, mud, condensation, and months of closed windows. By the time spring arrives, your home has accumulated a season's worth of grime — on windows, in air vents, behind appliances, and in every corner your vacuum barely reaches.
A thorough spring clean isn't just about appearances. It reduces allergens, improves indoor air quality, and sets your home up for a fresh summer. Here's a room-by-room checklist we use at Verde Luxe Cleaning.
Kitchen
Deep clean inside the oven and microwave. Wipe down all cabinet fronts and drawer handles. Pull out the refrigerator and clean behind and underneath it. Descale the coffee maker and dishwasher. Clean the range hood filter — Michigan winters mean a lot of comfort cooking.
Wipe down the backsplash, sanitize the garbage can, and organize the pantry. Don't forget the tops of cabinets — they collect grease and dust year-round.
Bathrooms

Vacuum under beds and dressers. Wipe down baseboards. Reorganize closets and donate anything you haven't worn since last spring.
Living Areas
Wash windows inside and out — Michigan salt and grime really builds up over winter. Clean window sills and tracks. Vacuum and flip couch cushions. Dust all shelving, electronics, and décor. Steam clean upholstered furniture if possible.
Wipe down light switches, door handles, and remote controls. Clean baseboards and air vents throughout.
Entryway & Mudroom
Deep clean the floors — entryways in Southeast Michigan endure more salt and mud than almost any other room. Wipe down walls and baseboards near the door. Clean and organize coat hooks, shoe racks, and storage bins.
Wash any rugs and doormats. Check weatherstripping on exterior doors — winter can degrade the seal.
